A Day in the Life of a Revel Veterinary Technician

At Revel Vet, we believe that behind every positive visit to the vet, is a dedicated Veterinary Technician. This month, in celebration of National Vet Tech Week 2024, we’re shining a spotlight on our incredible Revel Veterinary Techs, whose hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment make our practice a better place for pets and their ‘best humans ever.’

Behind the scenes, our vet techs work diligently to serve your pets all day long. What does a “day-in-the-life” of a Revel Vet Tech look like? We’re glad you asked!

Each day in veterinary medicine looks different. Everyone at the Revel practice must be prepared for anything – from emergencies to surgery day to a quieter schedule – but here are just a few ways that our Vet Techs provide exceptional care every day.

  • Setting up exam rooms and ensuring all necessary equipment is sterilized.
  • Greeting patients, collecting information, and performing initial assessments, such as taking the pet’s temperature, weight, and vitals. Our Revel Techs relay this information to the Vet so that they are prepared and able to treat your pet more effectively.
  • Assisting the Revel Veterinarian during visits by soothing your pet, performing routine tasks such as collecting blood, urine, or feces, and even helping to explain treatment options to you.
  • Collecting and processing lab samples in our in-house laboratory.
  • Prepping animals for procedures, such as dental exams and surgeries. Our Vet Techs shave and clean surgical sites, administer anesthesia, and monitor your pet’s vitals throughout the procedure.
  • Post-surgery or procedure, our Vet Techs help your pet wake up from anesthesia, monitor recovery, and provide post-operative care instructions to you.
  • Communicating with you, the pet owner, via text message, phone, or email, to explain how to administer medications, answer questions, discuss dietary needs, and provide guidance on care after the in-person vet visit ends.
  • Cleaning and restocking exam rooms (we must have yummy treats in every jar!), updating patient records, and preparing the practice for the following day of care.

As you can see, our Veterinary Technicians are busy, busy, busy! They love what they do and it shows. A few of our superstars spoke up about their profession and why it makes their heart sing.

“Since I was a little girl, I have always loved all the animals and knew I wanted to take care of them! I even tried to sneak my hamster in my pocket to kindergarten. I love seeing puppies and watching them grow, and when sick pets come in, it is my favorite to help them get better and go home with their people. I want people to know that there are so many advancements in veterinary medicine. It’s not the same world as it used to be where you just brought your pet in for shots. There is so much we can do to help your pets now!”
Bobbi Valenzuela
“I like seeing pets coming back feeling better. I like when they walk in the door and their tails are wagging because they’re happy to see us again. I like the satisfaction of helping pets leave better than they came in, for example, when they come in for a dental appointment with a messy mouth and go home with fresh, white teeth. Veterinary Medicine has evolved to the level of what we do for people. It is quite involved and the quality of medicine has really increased. We get such better results now than we used to in the past.”
Natalie Nelson
“Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always loved helping wounded animals. It was definitely my dream job to become a Vet Tech. I love working with the animals on a daily basis. I love when we can figure out what’s going on with an animal, see them weeks later, and they are fully recovered and so happy to see us.”
Tracey Fisher
“I wanted to be a Vet Tech so that I could give a voice to those who don’t have one and can’t speak for themselves. I love seeing a variety of patients come in and seeing them get better. I want people to know that Vet Techs have to go to school and take a national and state test to become certified. We know what we’re doing and are always learning!”
Morgan Bodell
“I have been surrounded by animals my entire life. I grew up on a ranch with horses, dogs, and cats, and I have always known I wanted to work with animals. I never saw myself doing anything else. The human-animal bond really excites me. Pets are peoples’ babies. I feel like I am making a difference by helping people keep their babies healthy.”
Heather Payne
“I had an experience in elementary school where I saved a dog’s life because I was holding its leash when it tried to jump out a moving car’s window. At that moment I knew I wanted to help animals and be an advocate since they do not have a voice. It’s not all puppies and kittens. This job can be stressful. There’s a lot of things we see that no one would want to see, but seeing them heal and get better is very rewarding.”
Erica Galligher
“When I was 18, I lost my childhood cat, and when I went to the hospital, I saw what the Vets and Techs did and was touched by their role. I knew then and there that I wanted to help animals and be there for those who did not have a voice. Vet Techs have to go to school for at least two years, and take a test to become a Certified Technician, which is similar to being an RN. I love my job, especially helping to educate clients on how to best care for their pets!”
Ally Fong
“Being in a general small animal practice is such an opportunity to help animals of all kinds, breeds, and ages. I love being a Vet Tech! We are the nurses of the animal world, and are always learning and growing our skill set.”
Kayla Schmuck

As we reflect on the vital role that Veterinary Technicians play at Revel Vet, we can’t help but pinch ourselves. It is clear that their dedication and expertise are the backbone of our practice. They work tirelessly behind the scenes, often going above and beyond to ensure every pet receives the best possible care.

To all the Vet Techs who pour their hearts into their work, we express our deepest gratitude. Your hard work not only improves the lives of countless animals but also brings peace of mind to pet owners who trust us with their beloved companions. Thank you for all that you do—Revel Vet would not be the same without you!
